At LHC Group, Veterans aren’t just welcome, they’re essential.
We are proud of the Veterans on our team – people like William “Chip” Ervin, executive director, at LHC Group. Before he joined our company family, Chip served in the U.S. Army as a combat medic, where he honed his skills in duty and integrity – qualities that would later prove to be crucial at LHC Group.
Chip knew his career in medicine wasn’t finished after he left the military. His journey eventually led him to home health and to LHC Group. Chip wanted to set a standard for the kind of care he expected from his team, and his words of guidance were reflected in his actions.
In September 2024, Hurricane Helen struck the state of South Carolina, bringing catastrophic damage, hundreds of fatalities and widespread destruction from record rainfall. When a fallen tree blocked a nurse’s driveway, Chip went to her house with a chainsaw and cleared the way so she could get to her patients. Later that day, he jumped a nurse’s car battery so she could finish her rounds.
When asked about his heroic efforts, Chip humbly said: “Care doesn’t stop because of a storm. Our patients are at their most vulnerable – many can’t evacuate or care for themselves.”
Whether it’s helping patients during a natural disaster or leading his team of home health professionals, staying true to his values keeps Chip going every day. He goes home each night knowing he’s done something to benefit someone’s life. “To me, that’s the highest calling,” he said.
Military medical roles don’t always carry over seamlessly into the civilian world, and Chip knows the transition isn’t easy. But he encourages Veterans to stay the course and consider home health as a career path. In today’s environment, the need for mission-driven professionals has never been greater.
“We need Veterans – people who don’t quit,” he said. “That mindset of grabbing a challenge and not letting go is exactly what home health needs.”
“Serving in the military shaped who I am. Serving in healthcare allows me to keep giving back.”
If you’re a Veteran like Chip, looking for a career that carries meaning and impact, consider a role at LHC Group.

SCAM Alert
As we continue to evolve through the digital age, consumers need to be aware of online scams that use false employment opportunities. These opportunities can service in a multitude of ways from a fraudulent job posting to scammers reaching out to you about a potential work-from-home job. LHC Group cares about the communities we serve and we want to ensure you are prepared for these criminal acts.
Here are a few key steps to help identify the authenticity of the job you are interested in:
1. Be skeptical of personal e-mail addresses. Any legitimate recruiter, HR person, or hiring manager will contact you from a corporate e-mail and never Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo, or other free personal e-mail addresses.
2. Never pay to get a job. Legitimate employers will never ask you to send money to acquire a job.
3. Never accept money before working. Never agree to have money deposited into any of your accounts during the job search process.
4. Video interviews – Ensure the company representative is live in the interview. Legitimate recruiters, HR and hiring managers will always show their live self during a video interview.
5. Work from Home – Be cautious of any work from home job opportunity. Especially if you have been contacted by a person with a personal e-mail address, offers to conduct interviews without displaying their live image, and wants to send you money before you work.
6. Verify the job – Legitimate employers will post the position on their career site. Verify that job is on the career site and apply directly through the company’s official site. If you don’t find the job OR a similar job, chances are it is a scam.
